Terms and Conditions — Eco-Drive Rentals Limited
All tariffs are in New Zealand Dollars (NZ$) and are inclusive of New Zealand Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Drivers’ Requirements and Licence
Drivers holding Restricted or Learner’s Licences are not permitted to rent a vehicle from Eco-Drive Rentals Limited. All drivers must possess a Full Licence and hold a valid licence for the entire hire period. An international or country-of-origin driver’s licence is acceptable; however, if the licence is not in English, an international driving permit or certified translation is required.
Minimum driver age is 21. There is no maximum age restriction. A young driver surcharge of NZ$5 per day applies to drivers aged between 21 and 25.
Eco-Drive Rentals Limited reserves the right to request two recent (within 3 months) proofs of address from the hirer prior to vehicle hire.
Daily Hire Charges
Hire charges are calculated on a per twenty-four (24) hour day basis.
Deposit and Payments
A 10% deposit is required to secure your booking. The remaining 90% of the total payment is due on the day the rental period commences. For after-hours collections, full payment is required on the preceding business day. Cancellations prior to vehicle collection are subject to our cancellation policy.
Credit Cards
Accepted payment methods are Visa and MasterCard credit cards, or cash in NZD. A 2.5% surcharge applies to credit card payments. A credit card is required for the rental bond and must be in the name of the main hirer. If no credit card is available, a cash bond of NZ$500 is required. Credit card details or cash bonds may be retained for up to 90 days following the conclusion of the rental.
Cancellations
Cancellations made before the pickup date incur no cancellation fees. Deposits will be refunded within 3 working days upon receiving a written cancellation request via email to hello@ecodriverentals.co.nz.
Cancellations on the pickup date or no-shows are subject to a cancellation fee equal to 10% of the total rental amount (including accessories and insurance).
Amendments
If the rental period is reduced and a refund is requested, it will be processed within 3 business days following confirmation. Extensions to the hire must be approved by Eco-Drive Rentals Limited and are subject to vehicle availability and applicable charges.
Unauthorised late returns will incur the daily rental rate plus NZ$200 per day. Changes to pickup or drop-off locations require prior approval and may incur a fee of up to NZ$800. If a return location change is denied and the vehicle is not returned accordingly, the hirer is liable for all associated recovery costs.
Fuel
Vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel and must be returned full. A fuel refill charge plus a NZ$25 service fee applies to vehicles returned without a full tank.
Additional Fees
Vehicle not returned in tidy condition: NZ$200 cleaning fee
Smoking inside the vehicle: NZ$200 fee
Transporting pets in the vehicle: NZ$200 cleaning fee
Traffic Infringements and Fines
All fines and traffic infringements are the responsibility of the hirer. A NZ$50 administration fee applies per infringement. If the provided credit card is declined or not supplied, Eco-Drive Rentals Limited may forward the hirer’s information to the appropriate authority. Any court or enforcement costs will also be charged to the hirer.
Unpaid balances or newly discovered costs may be referred to a debt collection agency, and the hirer will be responsible for all collection-related costs.
Termination of Hire
Eco-Drive Rentals Limited reserves the right to refuse hire or to terminate an existing agreement without notice under certain conditions, including breach of terms, fraudulent booking, vehicle damage, or concerns over driver competence or safety. In such cases, no rental refund will be given, and recovery costs may be charged.
Insurance
Insurance excess is not pre-charged but authorised for deduction if required. For hirers without a credit card, a NZ$500 cash bond is held. If no damage or incidents occur, this is returned within 3 weeks post-hire.
Insurance is void if:
Terms and conditions are breached
Driving under the influence
Driving recklessly or unlawfully
Vehicle is taken off-road or onto a beach
Vehicle rollover, underbody/overbody damage, or use of incorrect fuel occurs
Damage to or loss of accessories or keys occurs
Insurance Options
Basic Insurance: Included with all hires. Excess NZ$4900. Website booking excess: NZ$2900 (https://ecodriverentals.co.nz/).
Reduce Risk Insurance: NZ$18/day, reduces excess to NZ$500 (max 50 days).
Zero Risk Insurance: NZ$22/day, reduces excess to $0. Includes windscreen, tyre cover, and premium roadside assistance.
P Plates Licence Insurance: NZ$29/day (max 50 days).
Claims under Zero/Reduce Risk Insurance during hire void the cover for the remaining hire period.
Mechanical Faults
Hirers must maintain basic vehicle checks during the hire. Mechanical faults must be reported to Eco-Drive Rentals Limited immediately. Refunds are only considered where Eco-Drive Rentals has been notified and has been given the opportunity to remedy the situation.
Vehicle Substitution
If a booked vehicle becomes unavailable, Eco-Drive Rentals Limited reserves the right to substitute a comparable vehicle or refund all monies. No obligation to replace a vehicle exists if damage was caused by the hirer.
Data Collection
Eco-Drive Rentals Limited may collect and retain journey data. This information may be used at its discretion.
Updates to Terms
Eco-Drive Rentals Limited may amend these terms, tariffs, and vehicle specifications without prior notice. The company also reserves the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.
