No Excess Insurance Policy 

What is this service?

This service is provided by Eco-Drive Rentals Limited to offer customers extra peace of mind while hiring a vehicle. For just $25 NZD per day, our No Excess Insurance Policy ensures that if your rental vehicle is damaged or stolen, we’ll refund you the excess amount charged by the rental company — subject to the terms below.

What is covered?

  • Damage excess: up to $2,500 NZD

  • Theft excess: up to $2,500 NZD (vehicle theft only, must return keys)

  • Roof damage: up to $500 NZD

  • Tyres: up to $250 NZD per tyre

  • Rims: up to $250 NZD per rim

  • Undercarriage: up to $500 NZD

  • Glass/Mirrors: up to $350 NZD

  • Accidental damage by named drivers on the rental agreement

  • Unlimited distance coverage across New Zealand

What is not covered?

× Loss or damage to personal belongings or extra hire equipment

× Interior damage or cleaning fees

× Damage caused by breaching the Rental Agreement, including:

Off-road use, Misfuelling, Driving under the influence, Breaking NZ road laws

× Third-party liability claims

× Damage due to:

Vandalism, Natural disasters (e.g. hail, flooding), Failure to follow rental company procedures (e.g. not notifying police), Administrative or processing fees from the rental provider

Restrictions on Cover

  • The maximum payout for any single claim is $2,500 NZD

  • Cover is valid for one claim only per rental agreement

  • You must return the keys in case of theft to be eligible

  • Cover is valid only for the dates and times on your Eco-Drive rental agreement

  • You must be listed as a named driver on the agreement

What are my obligations?

To be eligible for a claim:

  • You must purchase this cover at the time of booking

  • You must comply with the terms of your rental agreement

  • You must report any incident to Eco-Drive within 30 days of the rental end date

  • You will need to provide supporting documentation including:

    • Signed rental agreement

    • Damage or theft report from the rental company

    • Police report (if applicable)

    • Evidence of charges to your card

Do I still need to leave a deposit?

Yes — you’ll still need to leave a credit card deposit when picking up your rental. This is standard practice, and refundable if the vehicle is returned undamaged.

How does the claims process work?

  1. Notify us within 30 days of the rental end date

  2. Gather your documents (rental agreement, police report, payment proof)

  3. Submit your claim via our Contact Page or email

  4. Once verified, we’ll refund your excess charges up to the stated limits
